A. C. Grayling flytur fyrirlestur í minningu Páls Skúlasonar í Hátíðasal Aðalbyggingar Háskóla Íslands 7. apríl kl. 16.
Um efni fyrirlestursins: The dilemma of democracy is that two very important rights can conflict: the right for each enfranchised citizen to have a voice in choosing a government, and the right for all citizens to have good government. The tension between these rights was described long ago by Plato (Republic Book VIII). The form of democracy that combines these rights effectively constitutes the good state. This talk describes and justifies the principles that such a state must embody.
A. C. Grayling er rektor New College of the Humanities í London og fyrrverandi prófessor í heimspeki við Birkbeck College, University of London. Hann hefur skrifað og ritstýrt fjölda bóka um heimspeki og önnur efni. Meðal nýlegra bóka hans má nefna Democracy and its Crisis (2017) og The Good State (2020). Nýjasta bók hans For the Good of the World: Is Global Agreement on Global Challenges Possible? kom út fyrr á þessu ári.
